1984 original radio photo

Hello,

any 1984 owners out there can post a photo of the dashboard, I have a problem identifying this year's Blaupunkt standard on 911.

Thanks

Josep

If I remember correctly my '85 came with the Blaupunkt New York(er). Perhaps the '84 did as well.

If this is verified I can take a pic for you.

BTW, it was a cassette only, no CD. Perhaps other models were offered as well.

Hello,

yes it may be, I'm in doubt between the New Yorker and Köln or Hamburg SQR. Please post the photo.

Many thanks,

Josep

I had an original Hamburg in my Swiss 911 Carrera 3.2 which I upgraded to same age Montreal. The radio is fine but the cassette mechanism does not work. I do not have any use for it...

Here's a pic of mine. It's an original option with option code 327. My car is a 1984. I can't remember the name of the radio, but I think it was Blaupunkt Köln.

It's a Köln SQR 22 if you have two loudspeaker outlets and a separate fader (usually on the center console), and it's a Bamberg SQR 83 if the fader is in the radio itself ( 1 addtl button onthe lower left row of buttons on Mikkel's pic).

Mine was is a '83 and the radio was a Monterey (I'm pretty sure). It looked just like that.

Here's a photo. Radio and phone since removed. I still have the test cassette in the car. I need to remove that for weight reduction and honestly I'm interested to hear it.

Steve,
The Monterey seems to have less functions (less butons on thebleft side of the face). Is it a USA version?

It is a USA car. I guess they made it for the US market. The manual however wasn't edited for the US. It includes the phrase "if you are travelling from Munich to Dusselldorf, you can program in the stations on your route..."

Here is what came in my US '85 Carrera. I believe this was standard for the year. According to Google it may have been stock for '84 in the US as well. Amazingly I could not locate one pic on the internet, including current and past Ebay auctions.

Sorry for the less than perfect quality. It took me a while to find this in storage and I had to get out of the house in a hurry. I'll take other (clearer) pics if you need them. BTW, It says New York SQR-83.

So I guess it would sum up as this:
In Europe, the Köln (2 speaker outlets) and the Bamberg (4 outlets)
In America, the Monterey (2 outlets) and the New York (4 outlets)

Also, it seems that 944s came with the same stock radios. This is what I've found (credit to http://www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faqst.html) :

1983

Blaupunkt Monterey SQR22 (U.S. stereo cassette)
Blaupunkt Koln SQR22 (M327, ROW)

1985/2, 86

Blaupunkt Hamburg SQM241A (w/ARI)
Blaupunkt Monterey SQR-23 (U.S., M158)
Blaupunkt Boston SQM-23 (ROW)
Panasonic CQ-977 radio/cassette (UK)

Notice the New York is missing from this list

A better system option might have been as shown below:

85/2 944 onwards (M490 10 speaker system, M493 8-speaker system)
This system consists of a better quality head unit with an equalizer/booster in dash. Each door contains 3 speakers - a 5-1/2" woofer and a 4" midrange mounted under the armrest with a small tweeter mounted above the power window controls. Each rear quarter contains 2 speakers - a 6 1/2" woofer and a nn" midrange.

1985/2, 1986

Blaupunkt Lexington SQR-45 (U.S.)
Blaupunkt Bremen SQR-45 (w/ARI)
Blaupunkt Toronto SQR-45 (ROW)
Blaupunkt Koln IQR-45 (w/ARI)

When did these models come into use? Would they be fitted to my car ('82 SC) as well?

Chris,

If the 911 line followed the 924/944s then this may apply:

Aug 1979 (924 Turbo)

Two extra stereo speakers, electric antenna, and wiring
Two extra stereo speakers in doors, one in center, manual antenna and wiring
Electric antenna
Porsche CR type DE stereo radio/cassette (Germany), three speakers, manual antenna (M351)
Porsche CR type RW stereo radio/cassette (export), three speakers, manual antenna (M422)

Feb 1981

Fader control provided
Super Arimat digital radio, antenna, three speakers (M126?)
Porsche U.K. typically installed Panasonic stereos, such as the CQ-873 radio/cassette.
