Leaking Aux. Air Regulator
A while back, I had my AAR out. I noticed when I reinstalled it, that if I blew through one side and plugged the other end, a fair amount of air still escaped from it. It didn't seem fully air/vacuum tight. I couldn't tell exactly where the air was escaping from, but it seemed like it was from the electrical connector.
Will someone else with one of these guys handy, blow through theirs and tell me if they find the same? I'm curious if this is causing a vacuum leak in my car.

Make sure you blow air the right way. One way it stops air when closed and one way it doesn't. That's by design.

Is it the AAR or the AAV which only works one way? The AAR has the variable closing window based on temperature, It looks like impedes airflow versus blocking it. My issues is that the whole thing does not seem fully sealed.

The AAR stops air one way and one way only. If you're going to blow thru it to check it you must blow thru the short end(the difficult end to blow thru) not the long end (the easy end). Blow in the direction of the arrow on the body.
Common mistake.

OK, I'll try blowing the other direction.
Although I wasn't going to admit it, I also sucked on the other end to simulate vacuum. I recall it leaking then too. Basically, it shouldn't leak any air, right?

It should not leak in the direction of the arrow when closed.

Have you tried blowing or pulling air through one of these before?

OK...I'll complicate things further. I was having trouble with a high idle on my 81SC during warmup. I took out the AAV, and checked the resistance per the factory manual. 33ohms exactly per the specification. I then applied 12volts and the valve closed, but took almost 6 minutes to do so.
I finally found a brand new AAV (don't ask how much it cost) and tested it on the bench. When I plugged one end and blew in the other (doesn't matter which), air came out of a small hole just underneath the hose connection! When I did this test on the old AAV, it was airtight. Anyway, I installed the brand new AAV and...voila...idle problem fixed. It now idles at about 1300 rpm for a minute or two when cold and idles down smoothly to about 700 rpm. The only issue now is that I can't adjust the idle above 700 rpm with the bypass idle adjustment. It may be that the mixture is off, as it was adjusted with the apparently bad AAV. Perhaps others could see if their AAV also leaks out of the small hole underneath the hose connection (opposite side of the electrical connection).

You guys are starting to scare me. The little hole below the hose connection is for oiling the slide.
And I'll say it one last time. The AAV is a one way valve. It only needs to seal one way. When the slide is fully closed no air will pass in the direction of the arrow. OK maybe you can force a little to come out the oil hole but that is outside the CIS system and isn't going to come out the hose connection. In the other direction air will always pass even when the slide is closed. Now why is that??? For you "injunerds" the slide seals on the side towards the oiler to when you blow in in the direction of the arrow, it improves the seal. When you blow the otherway it breaks the seal.

Three points. First, I've never seen or heard of any reference to an "oil hole" in the AAV. Second, re-read my message and you will see that air comes out the "oil hole" regardless of which way you blow with the new AAV, and the old AAV is airtight. Third, vacuum pulls filtered air through the AAV, in the direction of the arrow. If the "oil hole", which is on the intake side, is allowing unfiltered air to be sucked in, it is, in fact, part of the CIS system. However.....whater the case, the new unit appears to have fixed the idle problem, except I now can't adjust the idle above 700 rpm.
