wires

Where can I find a set of wires for the whole car for a 69 912 or 911?

Assuming our host doesn't carry it, look here:

Now that is one heck of a wiring kit!

Ishmeal, what do you want these wires for? Are you doing a concours restoration? A race car whose tub was dipped, necessitating removal of the factory harness? Has the car been in a fire?

Depending on the answer, there are various places you can go. First, if only part of your harness is bad, you might consider re-doing it with identical wires and connectors, such as found in the link above. (note: replacing wires with the wrong color has been known to cause oil leaks, snapped headstuds, headaches, ED, moldy bread and the condition known as hot dog fingers).

If winning the Pebble Beach concours d'Elegance is your true calling in life, call the folks at www.ynzyesterdaysparts.com and they can hook you up.

The trouble with harnesses from wrecks (junkyards, eBay) is that you rarely know what you're getting, the harness may have been damaged when it was removed, wires could be burnt, or may have work-hardened over the years. Also, the '69 was kind of a nonstandard transitional year- they don't have a 14-pin connector for the engine wire harness.

I say, make your own. Most parts of the car's wiring can be redone with a soldering iron, wire stripper, crimping tool, and the original German connectors with rubber cover. I made one for my instruments that is impossible to tell from the original.

Good luck!

If he is talking about ignition wires which our host has along with just about every parts store on the planet as you can put bug wires on a 912 (I'll get reamed for saying that).
