valve adjustment on 2.4S MFI engine got my engine out, got the 101 projects book and the engine rebuild book... everything ready ... but there's no mentioning how much valve clearance there should be when adjusting! does anybody know what the values should be on a 2.4S engine? if possible in metric? did i miss something obvious here? thanks Stijn |

If your car is in reasonably original shape, there will be a decal on the rear sill of the engine compartment with the clearance. |

mine is by no means reasonably original found out this week : asked Porsche importer for some info on my car the facts returned on mine were : october 72, kitted out for germany > mine miles on the dash?!?! left the factory as fushia brown > during winter restoring , i found not a spec of brown.. lot's of blue under the outer paint though engine numbers way off too. the factory options .. foglights front and back , brown leather interior mine doesn't have foglights or brown interior.. so my guess is that somebody switched chassis numbers and the real 9113310111 probably met it's fate at the scrap yard so no , nothing original.. do i care?? not really.. it's registred legally under that number... for 8 years already... and the restore project is closing to an end... i'll be happy soon :D:D |

So have you checked the secret chassis number stamped in the dash panel under the knee pad. If it agrees with the one stamped into the trunk floor panel and there is no sign of welding to either area you must have the correct car. Over the years I've seen cars that were stolen, had new front clips welded on and even replacement of rusted chassis where numbers didn't match so you might want to investigate a bit more. Good luck, Scott |

eeh, where exactly is that panel? |

I have not looked in a few years but I recall it being under the right hand knee pad on the lower edge of the near vertical surface of the dash panel. Sort of under the radio hole if memory serves me correctly which it doesn't always anymore. The US police use these hidden numbers to help identify stolen cars and all cars imported to the US had them after.......1965 as I recall. They are located on different spots from car maker to maker. I used to know a bunch of them: Jaguar E-type-next to lisence plate lamp hole in boot, Austin Healey 100 and 3000 series next to front suspension lower mounting bracket on chassis right rail, MGB on chassis cross member next the transmission mount, 911- as stated, Ford Mustang under right front fender flange on inner fender etc ....etc. Take a look it would be interesting.
