Show Me Your Stereo

I am looking to add a new deck to my Porsche - I have an old Alpine and I want CD/MP3s in the car. I need some ideas and what looks good.

Anything with an allblack face - whatever you do, do not go with the flashy silver/crome colored stereos, they take attention away from the race inspired interior. My Favorite is the sony with the stealth black face or the kenwood with the same stealth blakc face - Or the Old Alpines that had th eallblack face plates. I have an Elcipse with allblack face, I just hate a green lit knob that it has.

I couldn't find anything new that I liked. I ended up buying a used blaupunkt head unit on e-bay for $61. The new stuff just looks out of place IMHO.

I have an older model Pioneer Cassette/CD headend with a Pioneer 6 CD changer under the hood and Pioneer speakers in the doors and on the rear package shelf. I like the older models better than the new units and you can get great deals on NOS stuff on eBay...

You should be since they are all DIN

Wiring is a different story, since the later stereo has special connectors

I put a Becker CR 220 into a 1993. I was able to get a wiring harness from Becker North America. It looks great, two knobs and several buttons and it is black and says Porsche on it.

The display is hard to read in cars older than 99, but again Becker has an upgraded display that solves that problem.

Here's a picture:

I just went to the Becker website and they say they no longer sell CD changers or radios!

I went with a Blaupunkt Phoenix V-Line MP3 CD Receiver. I figure a 911 has to have a Blaupunkt, (I pulled out a perfect Sony). I like the MP3 play-ability,you can have 12 hours of music on one disk, so a lot less clutter with disks, or remote changers. Speakers; Polk 4x6 in rear, Polk 5 1/4 in kick panels (where heater fan boosters used to be). Not the most high-tech, but loud and clear, simple and light. The Phoenix has knobs for volume and tuning, which I like better then buttons, and it is not too flashy (bling).

I like that Blaupunkt alot and what better to go with a German car than a German stereo - I saw it for sale at Fry's Electronics - I am gonna go see what they have in stock. I have only one worry -Targa Top Off = Free Stereo - I hope not. Thanks for the help everyone.

Art,

Yes its true, Becker USA doesn't sell new stuff, you can go to SW Stereo and even Pelican. I bought mine used, Ebay sometimes has some too.

i've been running a blaupunkt toronto for about 6 years......
i'm switching to a 1991 pioneer m-900 with changer, i modded the changer cable to let me pipe in my sirius sat radio, this radio was the absolute best for years until the rest of the market "caught up". it still gives modern radios a run for their money.

borrowed pic.....

Becker sells reconditioned head units, call their sales office via the web site. Also, look at the Nakamichi CD 400, very clean.
