removing Crossover pipe 87 3.2
 

Guys,

So I have got the presilencer and muffler off, I have even separated the crossover pipe from HEs, but how do I get it out without disturbing the heat exchangers?

I know I can cut it out, so more importantly how do I get the new one in?

I really dont want to have to the heat exchanger off.

Why do you want to touch the crossover pipe?

When replacing the presilencer the flange on the cross over pipe came away. It was as rusty as hell. was no longer serviceable.

I hear that you need a 2 part pipe as a replacement, is this correct? Otherwise I need to take the HE off?

I'm a little confused...again.

When I swapped out my stock muffler and cat for a bypass and a GHL muffler the crossover pipe could not be reinstalled (interfered with the GHL muffler).

I had no problem removing the pipe as it was fastened only at the HE's and then through a rubber grommet on it's way into the engine compartment. If you have it disconnected from the HE's it should just pull out of the grommet.

OK, sorry let me try to be a bit clearer.

It runs over the top of the n/s (euro) HE to the presilencer (remember no cat - euro). the part has a concertina style end on it, which will not fit between the engine and HE. I know I can cut it out. But need to get a new one in. My understanding is you can get a 2 part pipe, so that one half will thread through then the other half joins it.

Any one else done this? Or is the US spec car different? I.e. straight end comes straight out.

I'm in the same boat here...does not appear the crossover pipe can be installed with the heat exchangers on the car...correct? I did not think to put this on before I installed the tranny....now it looks like there is no way to thread it through once I get the engine installed back in the car. Does this sound right to anyone who's worked on a 3.2? I guess I can just remove one or both of the HE's once I get the engine bolted in but I'd hate to have to do that for no reason.

I just had my exhaust completely apart and reassembled. I had to make sure the the crossover pipe was in place before installing the left HE. I don't see how it is possible otherwise. The flanges are too big to clear the space between the HE and the engine.

Scott, thanks for the confirmation. I came to the conclusion there's no way this is going back together without removing the left HE.
