Does the retractable spoiler give you the same stabilizing effect that you would get from the ducktail? I always thought of the retractable spoiler as more of a cooling aid than an aerodynamic aid. Would the retractable spoiler balance out a lip spoiler on the front, or do you need something bigger like a duck tail or a whale tail?

Although with that said, I prefer the retractable spoiler.

Dan :)

A duck on a Targa rules if done correctly.http://www.pbase.com/image/27227661/medium.jpg

I went through this dilemma, and opted for a C2 tail. I basically took the old AC out, and upgraded to a 993 AC unit which is behind the front bumper and next to the left front wheel.

With a retractable spoiler, you get the best of both worlds.

The clean, tail-less, sexy butt:

And the usefulness of a wing at high speeds:

You can't go wrong with either. It is just a personal thing at this point.

Do both. I put a duck on my RS replica but I also had the stock lid repainted at the same time.

One of these days I might actually put it on the car.

Do you mean a retractable duck tail!!!!!!!!!

It's funny. SC and Carrera guys are updating to 964 spoiler, while I'm backdating my 964.

Quack Quack.

No question.

I'd love to ducktail mine, and when I have the spare time, I will!

Now the debate on whose duck to choose.....

Craig Roche 03-25-2004 12:14 AM

Everyone, thanks for all that input! The more ducks I see, the more I like them!! Ok, so what are the choices for suppliers/manufacturers and how much $$$

I think MAShaw, www.mashaw.com, also has an ad in Excellence with prices and parts, is generally considered one of the best f/g suppliers around.

I was really surprised that the body shop putting on my MS shaw said the fit was horrible. This was only the second time I have heard something bad about a shaw.

I was at Mike Shaw home last week picking up the duck, and he is very proud of his product.

Wow, that's surprising to hear. Was this a body shop that Mike recommended? I bet he would be interested in feedback. He seems like a really good guy.

I have been happy with Getty Design. I got my RS rear bumper from them thru Pelican.
