Garage/paint booth valance respray
Because I recently went from a dual back to a single out exhaust, I needed a new rear valance. Naturally I didn't receive the red one purchased off ebag, but was substituted an ugly arse mint green one instead. Luckily I had some paint, reducer, and hardener left over from the ducktail installation. The paint is PPG Deltron and mix is 8 parts paint, 6 parts reducer, and one part hardener. Because I'm lazy and didn't want to break out and clean up the spray gun, I used a Preval aerosol cartridge. It siphons from a pint jar that screws onto the cartridge. Except for a couple of airbornes that planted themselves in the fresh enamel, The results are pretty good. The paint is slick enough that if not for the debris, I wouldn't even color sand. Here are some pics of the non-draft paint booth.

Great work Dr. Mark, the paint looks flawless in the pics. Was that Preval Sprayer in the second photo what you used to paint the valence? I have a carrera tail I would like to paint, and after seeing what you created, I am motivated.

That was the official spray gun! I used the Preval to paint my ducktail as well. Primer was Dupli-color aerosol for both parts.

Dr. Mark, where did you get the preval sprayer and paint? What tools did you need to get that job done? It might just be the pics, but I am really shocked at how much it looks like a pro paint shop did the work. I was going to buy a spray gun, but your setup with the preval seems alot smarter. Thanks!

Pari,
First, I need to tell you that I'm not a paint expert(nor do I play one onTV), but I did work in a body shop a thousand years ago. No doubt a good gun could lead to awesome results, but as I said, I'm lazy. Get your supplies from an automotive paint supply store. They can give you the right paint and advice on mixing. They may have the Preval too, but if not, Home Depot carries it. You'll need a few cans of primer, some 400, 600, 1000 grit paper, a flexible sanding block, tape, rags, and dropcoths. The paint store guys are usually pretty helpful with newbies. Good luck! Hey John, When do we get to see pics of your car all put together? |

Thanks for the list of supplies Mark! I am planning on stopping by Matto's(local auto paint store) this week. I will definitely check for the Preval, because I'm lazy as well

Dont be lazy! Cranking a gun up takes no time at all, and a cheap gun is still better than a pressure pack IMHO. Use gun cleaner rather than top shelf reducer to clean. Nice thing about a gun is you can blow the surface clean before you pull the trigger all the way in to shoot paint, this helps to stop anything getting into the final coat.

Hey Pari - I have a HVLP gun. Get your paint and we'll shoot the tail over at my house. FYI, the color you'll need is Porsche factory paint code 492 - Pastel Beige.

Very nice finish, Dr. Mark.
I used a couple of these Preval units a while ago with very good results. Once on a "Flexdam" (remember those?) and another on a rear valance...it's perfect for those type of projects.

I've used the Preval also, with good results.

![]() Next thing I know my H4's will be gone. All I can say is, don't point the finger at me if you come in the garage one morning and notice the 8&9 fuchs are gone from your Carrera. I don't even like wheels that big .
