Smile Wonderful reflector find

I haven't been able to find the thread that posted this EBay Project car which included a vast supply of other parts. I looked at the various pictures and the description and saw some center reflectors.

Since this was a 1971 911 I Emailed and asked if either reflector would be available. He said that he was trying to sell locally and that I might have to try the winning bidder if the action ended. I contacted him and the winner ($2125) and asked about the reflector. The seller said that the winner would probably leave it with him if the selling price was reduced .

He sent me several pictures and described the reflector as being in excellent shape - used the letters 'NOS' but never did say "New Old Stock". We agreed on $100 and it arrived today.

It has a date stamp from 1991 on it but is the 74-77 screw mounted type that I have for my 1975 - my reflector's aluminum backing flaked off in many places - especially after hitting it with a spray of water to clean it. The reflector didn't come with a box but it certainly could have - if it did I could make some money reselling it on EBay - reflectors of questionable condition go for $70-100. NOS - I guess hundreds.

Other than a few missing parts and lots of rubber replacements ordered from Pelican this was the only major item that I needed to source and replace for my ongoing restoration - I am very lucky to have found this specimen at this price!

Thanks for pointing out this project car! Even when you guys are trying not to be helpful - you are!

Very resourceful! I like your tactics.

I’m on the quest for a reflector also and have been choking at the prices

awesome find...i have the later style reflector that doesn't have the black lettering paint, but same otherwise on my '74. keep thinking one day i'm going to have to source an original look one like yours. although a subtle look like mine isn't too bad either.

Man, that thing is pristine! I just replaced the hardware on the back of mine. I used rubber gromets and stainless washers from the hardware store (to re-create those stock things that were way rotted out).

I'm getting new rubber spacers from Pelican. The old ones are squashed from age, compression and heat. I'll try to get a picture of how bad the old one looked here. My attempts to recoat the reflective surface or strip the old stuff were an utter failure. Future garage decor.
