Early 911 brake issue

I recently reubuilt my front calipers and master cylinder. Beld them, pedal feels good. the only problem is the brake light stays on. It is like there is excess pressure in the system. I have had any luck trying to get more air out (just fluid). I replaced the connections on the switch at the master. no signs of chafing or grounding. If I pull the fuse wait a min and put it back in it is all good until I drive it and heat of the brakes. It seems to be getting better becuase at first it did it on the stands and now it is only when it gets heated up. Fine when it cools. Should I just take it on a long highway drive and "wear it in"? any suggestions welcome.

Are you talking brake light ...like taillight? Or do you mean brake warning light in the instrument cluster? If it is the warning light make sure the switch and wires are proper and grounded right. When I replaced mine, I had to use the old switch as the new one only had one wire, and the original had two. If it is the brake light, check to see that the washer on the brake actuation pin is properly set to release the trigger on the switch on the pedal cluster. Also make sure the switch is working and not just stuck. If you just had the cylinder out, I'll bet it's the washer thing.

you need to disconnect your battery to reset the light system in you dash. i think you can manually do it by climbing back down there and taking the tiny rubber boot off inbetween the two electrical connectors on the pressure sending unit and pushing the ittybitty prong back in.
good luck.

Thanks, Targa911S, your point remided me that I had forgot to re adjust my pedal/master pushrod. So it was purely one of those head up my butt situations.

Raymond:

The car is a '66 those are the stock lights for SWB 911 I think they came on late 356 as well. I replaced one with a Genuine Porshce part about 9 years ago it was $250, last year I got a reproduction one from Tweeks for like $60. WAY different quality One being German the other being made in India. But at least I dont have one light hunting monkeys in the trees as I go down the road. Plus there is a lot of rock and debris in the road out here. I drove it for 9 years in OC with no problems, here I have had two windshileds a headlight, and a fiberglass S bumber get wasted from road crap.

that's what i understood from my inquiry a few weeks ago... those lights came on the early SWB cars. the thing is, mine's a '70 and the front end is exactly the same, so i have to go with the thick glass european ones. right now i have the big chrome rings, and while not bad, i'd like to update the look since i have euro lenses all around.

i've been in OC for 20 years and don't recall your car. it looks alot like mine, except for the lenses and wheels. i love your car, it looks very purposeful and mean.

don't hear about many '66's... i'd definitely keep that honey!

mine's the same color, this pic was taken on the brightest day in history. on a regular day, it looks exactly like yours.

Raymond,

Those are the '65 thru '67 USA headlamp assemblies made by Hella. They use sealed beams ... which can be reeplaced by 7" H4 conversion assemblies! With the xception of the outer chrome trim and mounting ring ... everything else can use 1966 VW Beetle assembly parts for replacement!

FYI, when you get one of the new M/Cs that have only one wire to the switch, you just take the brown ground wire to a nut or bolt nearby and ground to the chassis.

Yeah, there is just somthing about early silver Porsches. Mine was red when I got it. It had been two other shades of blue. I think I went with the '70 sliver instead of the '66. It had a richer look to it. Thanks for the props. Both of those are prety damn sweet.

As far as tires, I am running Yoko AVS Intermediates 60/205/15. that is the absolute max that will fit. I had some cooper tires same size that had more room but didnt work as well. The 205's look good on the rim and look pretty equal to the 195's on the 5.5 in front
