HELP! regulator out, acid all over!

Driving home from Hershey on rt 78 my '74 lost the voltage regulator and boiled over the battery. No fun whatsoever. As I was waiting for the tow truck this dude Dwayne rolled thru in a beautiful '86 Vette, he stopped to chill because he was a fellow Porsche Owner. We talked about cars for around an hour and it was cool. Porsches bring out the Southern Hospitality in us all.

ANYWAY can someone tell me how to replace the regulator in a '74 911s? The shop manual and 101 projects say it's on the left side of the engine bay next to the headlight relays, but none of the units back there look like the regulator I bought... the first one is silver and says 'hella' so I figure it's the headlight relay. The second one is black and I have no clue what it is. The third one is larger than the other two and is aluminum or steel with cooling fins on it, and it says a lot of stuff in german... Which one is the regulator and can it just be swapped out for the new one?

THANKS!!!

Ian

I don't think the headlight relays are in the engine area, but I could be wrong on that. The last item you describe is the CD ignition box. The other is the reg.

You need to throw a whole box of baking soda on all the wet spots. Now.
