cut a big hole in that airbox
This is my new "no rain in the forcast, sport" airbox that should produce the same horspower increase as the after market "racing" airbox covers I've seen in fancy car publications.
I was thinking that the factory airbox is not very attractive so I picked up an old airbox cover at PartsHeaven and cut it apart to make this. It makes the engine compartment look better and I still have the stock airbox cover for rainy days. For the record I have noticed no change in performance or throttle response, this is strictly about making an sc engine look more exotic. Well, what do you think? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I don't know if airbox lid mods have been proven to help but if they are anytime soon I will cut a large rectangular hole in the top of mine. Then the plan is to buy some thin aluminum sheet and make a drip/rain shield set off about 2" above (assuming the clearance is there) the new opening and rivet the shield to the airbox lid. It would be like a second opening to the airbox but with some weather protection. The only drawback is that it will be more inclined to draw warmer air than your design.
