Search no longer pulls old threads - we're losing information.

I have been using the Search button to try to pull up older threads that I know I put out there - no luck. It appears our amassed wisdom is being lost.

Wayne: have we lost this information for good or is it existing on another server disk/db? Can we get it restored? I hate the idea of a "moving Search capacity" that eliminates what we've posted in the past.

I think this is pretty important.

Seems to be working here. I dug up a post from 1998, searched for some key words, and it came up.

Search for

brake light switch replaced Napa

You should get this:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28711&highlight=brake+l ight+switch+replaced+Napa

If they are from before the server software was updated, they will not show under your username (really old threads, users show as "Guest". Try searching with the "posted by" field blank.

If you're using your user name as part of the search, that might be the problem. Wayne changed something at one point so that a lot of my older posts are by a "JackOlsen" who isn't a member.

Jack:

You are correct -- pulling the user name revealed many, many more posts.

Worth remembering I guess.

I'm terrible at searching. So, when I find something important to me, I'll print, place in a notebook binder I have that is divided into various categories. Kind of a private workshop manual, I refer to it often.

There is some sort of limit on how many posts user name will return. I haven't been able to directly access my early posts in a long time except indirectly when searching for something else.:(

Should I regularly start a 911 vs.944 thread just so we don't lose such valuable information?

If I'm not mistaken you used to be able to pull up threads you started. Now if you use your name as an argument you get every thread you've ever participated in.

Nope, there is a limit
