Corner balance /alignment cost estimate

"The 78sc needs to go in for an alignment and corner balance in preparation for this years DE events.

The entire suspension has been appart (new torsions/bushings etc) So, to say it is out of spec is an understatement. I do have the ride height at where I want it. The shop that I was recomended (3R in Denver) has estimated anywhere from 6 to as much as 12 hours of labor. At $75 per hour, that adds up quickly.

What have you guys been paying for an alignment and conerbalance?"

I thought this was the 911 BBS?

Around $400 give or take is what I paid here on the east coast.

Just paid $382.

figure 4-5 hours at 65-75 an hour. I think I paid Andial $350 and some other porsche race shop about the same.

notta...do it myself with a carpenters level, floor jacks and string. Works great! There are a few DIY articales and books out there. It does take a while though.

I just paid Darin at West End Alignment in Gardena $220 for corner balance and alignment.

Total time while I was there watching was 4 1/2 hrs. As Darin is a one man operation, this included a couple 5 minute interuptions for phone and other porsche repair shops dropping off customer cars. I had just upgraded torsion bars myself and had set ride height close but my rear toe and camber were quite out of wack.
As a DIY I can appreciate someone who knows exactly what he is doing and Darin has it down. He had my car balanced in one try(something that he modestly attributed to my Cab being in exceptional condition after 14yrs, 3 owners and 75K miles.) Make no mistake, this guy knows his way around a Porsche and spent 20 minutes chipping away at the hard-as-JB weld coating at the top of my front struts to get more camber adjustment.For those of you lucky enough to live in the LA area he is definitely a great option. Sorry for the novel but it is increasingly rare to find such professionals at a reasonable price. If the bill had be $400 I would have willingly paid it!

I literally just step in the door from getting my SC lower, corner balanced and alinged. $350

Feels great, now I've gotta find time for some spirited driving...

EDIT: SO WEIRD.

Darin (West End) did mine also, I was there 15 minutes ago.

Ahhh hell here are my numbers:

Total: 2723 lbs

I'm guessing he had to re-index your torsion bars in order to lower it, hence the price?

Yes, he spent some time on it.

There was another 911 in the shop, a '98 C2S Turbo 'look'....gorgeous is an under-statement. :eek:

Philip, pictures? What ride height did you end up with?

Sorry, this is old, but 3100 lb for that turbo cab? I didn't think original chassis 911s could be that heavy, but I guess a G50 turbo cab would be the heaviest. Wow.

Wow is right! I had been planning on putting my car on a diet of F/G, but after getting rear-ended and surviving relatively unscathed($2K worth of bumper guards/shocks/center reflector/taillight) I'm a bit nervous. Those rear bumpers really do their thing.

You've got a terrific looking car there! I can't believe how good your wheels & tires look on it. You are right - Darin is a class act and does a terrific job on alignments & suspension setups. He's the only guy who has worked on my car's suspension ('86 911 & 993).
