will a 78 fuel pump fit an 83??

I have an 83 SC and can get a 78 fuel pump , but not sure if it fits. PET has two part numbers cut-offs 78-79 & 80+.

Are compatible?
thanks
earl

I will conjecture the number change represents going to an external check valve. I suspect the 78 pump will work but you will have to move the M12 x 1.5 to M12 x 1.5 check valve fitting (893.906.093) from the 83 pump to the 78; this is required to match the larger 83 fuel line banjo fitting and cap. This could mean there will be two check valves in line but other than a little more pressure drop this shouldn't hurt anything. Jim

Hey Jim.. how about this one?

If I have the small stock '77 CIS fuel line banjo. Do you think there is an adaptor to adapt an '88 fuel pump? Or I'd have to cut into the stock fuel line and rig something up?

Yes, there is an adapter (M12x1.5 to M10x1.25) but I do not believe it has the check valve in it (don't have my references with me). If the '88 pump doesn't have an integral check valve this could be a problem. Jim
