So how are things going over here with the SC turbos, oliver/tony?

ohecht 10-09-2004 05:03 AM

I am still saving up money and the courage to boost a 9.3:1 engine!

I just put in a new clutch and I am running the Innovate LM-1 WBO2 controller with a relay to switch between a 14.7 cruise and 12.8 WOT setting.

The WBO2 feedback into the CIS frequency valve has made the CIS system really predictable, more like an EFI system. No more temperature-related adjustments, etc., and the idle behavior is perfectly predictable based on engine and ambient temperature. The car feels great, and all of this has made me happier to slow down my "dangerous" turbo plans.

Before turbos, I need a fully adjustable EFI system, and the Megasquirt II and Ultramegasquirt stuff is just starting to hit the market, which is another thing I am waiting for. I have mounted a trigger wheel and sensor from a Ford EDIS system so I can also have a distributorless ignition to also help precisely control the ignition before turboing.

After all that is done, I will see how happy I am with that level of power and driveability before trying to see how I could actually fit two turbos and at least one intercooler into the car, which will be some trick with my skills and tools! I have two brand new T25s and on used K03 to try.

Sorry for my slow progress, but this is a daily driver and I have to justify the cost and risk slowly and compare it to how great the car feels already.

Olivier

Hey Tony,

Any progress on the Turbo upgrade?

Pics would be great too....

:D

Not much to update on the turbo side, but I have been keeping busy.

I setup a CNC milling machine in my shop to aid in developing parts as needed.

I have also been playing with a beta version of MegaSquirt II. Key features are larger VE table, target AFR for each VE bin, and ignition control. I'm going to try and use a GM 7-pin HEI module in conjunction with the stock distributor to control spark. Also has capability to control idle rpm via PWM of an idle solenoid.

Hard getting motivated to work on the car with this cold. Temperature is supposed to go to -30C tonight (-22F)!

Cheers,

Exactly how large are the tables in the beta? More than the 12X12 in the current MSII release?

I am planning on going with coil packs via the ford EDIS system myself to avoid all the hassles associated with the cap, rotor, distributor route.

tbitz 01-17-2005 07:29 PM

12x12 VE and 12x12 AFR target.

More info on MegaSquirt II can be found here:

Where are you getting your 36-1 tooth wheel from?

sbade 04-06-2005 01:08 PM

slightly off topic

For say an 87 or a 993, with EFI already, what would you recomend for handling ignition.. I'd like to eliminate the distributors. Also, has anyone had any luck replacing the stock Porsche DME with a MegaSquirt

350HP930 04-06-2005 04:15 PM

If you want to go to coil packs you had might as well just pick any good aftermarket EFI like MS.

Since its already EFI there there is less work to do to convert.

tbitz 04-06-2005 04:48 PM

I posted this in the other EFI thread, but I post it here too.

A lot of software development has been done by folks on the MegaSquirt I which allows it to have almost all the features of the much awaited MegaSquirt II.

Here is a list of features available with MegaSquirt I with the "MegaSquirtnSpark-Extra" software load:

12x12 fuel tables
12x12 spark tables
DualTable code
Roger Enns' injector staging code
Rev limiter
Launch control
Overboost protection
Mappable Air:Fuel Ratio target for use with wideband O2
Coolant temp timing advance
Inlet temp timing retard
MAPdot accel/decel enrichment
Anti-rev / Traction Control feature
Over-run fuel cut

Details can be found here:

All that and open source and hardware too boot.

88 or 993 Coil Packs

So the 64,000 dollar question.. has anyone set up MS on either and have it drive coils... If so.. do you have a parts list of what you bought.. I'd like to eliminate the damn distributor...

350HP930 04-06-2005 07:12 PM

With megasquirt all you need is the EDIS controller and coil pack for a V6 ford (~$90) and a 36-1 trigger wheel like the following.

350HP930,

That eBay sale looks like the Clewett 60-2 trigger wheel setup for the Electromotive/Haltech unit, not the 36-1 wheel for Ford EDIS.

Look at "Adapter Kits"

350HP930 04-07-2005 01:56 PM

If you check out the ad they offer and have a pic of a 36-1 trigger wheel option as well as the 60-2.

You can thank megasquirt for that.

cmonref 04-07-2005 02:15 PM

You are absolutely correct -- if I had taken the time to look at the details. I'm glad to see someone offering the 36-1 setup.

Tony,
Any word on the turbo upgrade? I'm considering your EFI kit next, then turbo.

Nothing new to report.

Considering how quickly the CIS-to-EFI kit came together, you'd think I'd have something done by now, eh?

Cheers,

Lukesportsman 12-10-2005 07:48 PM

6 month update?

Kit?

Your private ride?

tbitz 12-10-2005 08:38 PM

Sorry guys. Nothing new to report.
