3.3 Turbo into 1976
I am working on rebuilding a 1976 911S, and am currently looking for engines to replace my 2.7 Liter engine. As such I have found a 3.3 Turbo on ebay that has, "less than 2% leakdown on all six cylinders." I am wondering if anyone could tell me more information that I should know going into an engine purchase and how I could decrease my risks of buying a very expensive paper weight. The engine is within driving distance so I thought that I could go and get an inspection done with someone, but what should I be looking for and what questions should I be asking. I also don't know much about fitting a 3.3 turbo into a back dated Porsche. I am planning on adding a spoiler to the back so I know that the engine needs that extra clearance on the top, but are there other factors to take into account. Such as exhaust fitting with the 915 transmission as I have been told that this is an issue when attempting to fit a 3.6 Liter engine? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Rich |

at minmum i would do a leak down test, which can be done with the engine on the ground, u could also do a cold compression test aswell.
less than 2% is incredibly low, i would have thought even a new engine would have had some leak down. |

The 930 motor that I bought used had a leakdown of less than 2%. It runs great. It is a risk buying used. It could have other problems or not.
There is no problem with the exhaust. There are other things you have to deal with to install. You need to figure out where to put the turbo return oil. You need to get more fuel to the motor. You should do something about overboost protection. You should do something about increasing oil cooling cap.
