Pop-off Valve...Airbox
Hi!
I bought one of those pop-off valves for my air box (1978 SC) and noticed something about the installation in all the pictures... Is the point of the valve to introduce more air into the box, to equilibrate the resultant vacuum after a backfire, or is it to let the pressure caused by a backfire, escape?! Shouldn't the valve open to the outside of the box? Unless I'm completely backwards or missing something that exists below the ribs of the airbox... In any case, can someone please explain why I want the valve to open into the airbox, instead of opening to the outside? Thanks! Brad

hey brad. POV lets the car relieve the pressure out of the airbox. dont confuse where your air filter sits as the box. box is below (yes below the ribbed section) that is downstream of the air sensor plate, which btw, acts like a one way valve. hence the need for the valve. once you drill, you can peek into the airbox.
