Talbot mirror question
Hi
I own a 1968 911L, and am about to purchase a Talbot mirror......which series is correct for my car? And do I get the Surface mount version or the U-Bolt version? Also do I need to buy the extended base to mount it? Here is the link to the various options offered... http://www.alfacybersite.com/ACSTalboc.html thanx, SVK |

I bought the little one and it IS little. I got the surface mount kit and the u-bolt kit on the promise that I would send whichever one I didn't use back. I sent the u-bolts back. But they will work and might be a bit more stable. Hard to get into place, though. Very hard. No matter how you slice it, you're gonna have to drill at least one new hole in your door. That's with either method of attachment.

Milt, so you used the extended base plate? It looks like there are two screws (or bolts) thru this base plate. Do these screws go directly into the door metal? If the U-bolt mount is used, what covers these holes in the extended base plate? Is there a rubber/plastic gasket under the extended base? And I'm assuming the extended base plate covers everything from the original mirror mount ......
Any closeup photos of the install? Thanks. -- Curt |

It's not a perfect solution. I bought the original stye round mirror (Durant) and it was a total POS. I couldn't even adjust it right. The parts place got it back and I went with Talbot. I'm not terribly happy and it would not be a good mirror for track use. I don't care if Sterling Moss and Graham Hill used them in their day, they suck. A good sightly convex rear view mirror on the inside will go with me to the track. The Talbot merely satifys the DMV. And as far as the pass side goes, if you cover the factory holes (if you have them), you can't see the mirror face because of the A pillar! Note: I did not use the extended base plate. It's not necessary to cover the factory holes. The hollow base does just fine. And those holes from the extended base would be out of bounds if you should ever decide the go back to the flag or Durant mirror. Curt, maybe you'd like to sell me your Durant? ![]() ![]() Last edited by Zeke; 03-30-2004 at 07:23 PM.. |

Thanks for that info Milt and Bob! My original Durant has a small stone dent in it
![]() Steven - thanks for the comments. Those seats are pretty much one of a kind. They are original sport seats but were refurbished with the houndstooth and special red leather. You're probably looking at close to $3000 to duplicate. -- Curt |
