fender to Trunk Seal

Is there such a thing as a fender to trunk seal. When the fenders came off there was some putty-like substance inbetween the two. It kinda reminded me of plumbers putty. Can anyone tell me if this sealing material is available. Couldnt find on hosts site. As well would like to know if there is an aftermarket rubber seal that can be used. Maybe a "T" shaped extruded EPDM rubber seal. Im tempted to pull the weatherstripping off my garage door and use it. J/K. Am willing to entertain any reasonable fixes. No idea too crazy.

Any help is much appreciated.

I was just doing this project. People kept telling me to go to a local body shop and get a body panel strip stuff. It comes in strips and is sticky on both sides. I live somewhere out past nowhere, so ended up just filling the gap thoroughly with silicon sealant. The important thing is to keep from having any metal to metal contact between the fender and the car. There should be a couple of spacer washers to help make the distance work out right. Does that help any?

Dan

PS -- If you use silicon, don't get any on anything you don't want it to be on for a long time. I'm still scraping that gunk out of the lines in my hands...

I've used Automotive strip caulk, available at any autobody supply place.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/105652-fender-installation-putty.html?highlight=sealer

Dan, sure does. - Can I Pick your Brain more?

Did you use the clips that were on the fender or toss em and use nuts/bolts.

If you did use the clips, could you find replacement fasteners. Seems PO only used like 4 on each side. (car wasnt road worthy when I got it). I read in a prior post they are not easy to find.

Rick, Does the sticky stuff make it difficult to adjust the fender for correct gapping.
