Radio Delete!
Since it's not a daily driver, no need to distract from my P-car adventures. Drilled a smaller hole than the peg on the mini crest. No glue needed.

Very clean...nice work.

One disadvantage of no radio:
Can't turn up the radio when the wife-unit starts talking too much :D |
Looks good!

I'll see your radio, & raise you a heater.

the real solution is to sprint to your car, classic Le Mans style and take off like a bat out of hell...extra points if you can make the gravel go her way... chicks are evil. EDIT actually that's a solution for when it's to late i plan on not getting married, better safe then sorry :D |
Paul and 4to8m8:
I did the same this weekend. Can you describe what materials you each used to fab your cover? I used thin MDF and vinyl glued to the MDF. How did you attach your cover to the hole? Thanks, Troy |
Schrup, I can't believe you haven't deleted the cigarette lighter yet! ;)
Then on the other end of the spectrum is little ol' me, who has been cranking up my freshly installed amp #2 while cruising on the freeway last weekend and grinning non-stop. It's nice having a stereo I can hear with the windows and sunroof open on the freeway. I do lots of freeway driving, and I can't stand not having a stereo on long drives. There's only so long you can listen to the same tune... (i.e. 3.5K RPM's) :D When I go for a proper drive, the stereo is off, of course! Dan :) |
Troy, I glued some high qaulity vinyl from a fabric store to some high density cardboard & just popped it in. I used a kit from Car Toys for the radio hole.
|
Thanks Paul. I called around and no one had a radio hole plate. Your cover looks good.

hmmmm.... weeeerdness!
I'd dump that A/C garbahge attached to the center console before tossing the tunes. |
Troy, I took the path of least resistance and paid GOHO 20.00$ to remove Blaupunkt and Plastic weld a piece of ABS in place.

nice job guys. it's those little details that really make a car look good. i made my own radio and clock delete for $0 and it probably looks about $0.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1080606947.jpg

Thanks for the reply 4to8m8.
Hi Bob, can you provide some details on the construction of your radio hole cover? I'm still trying to find a good, non-permanent way to fix my cover onto the dash. What I'm doing now is kinda flimsy. Thanks, Troy |
Bob, from what I can tell there is nothing on your car that looks like $0.00. You have done a fantastic job! Where did you get your R style door handles?
|
I'd love to see some details for making and attaching the radio delete cover.

Wow, that looks really good. I wish i was that handy with a crest and some vinyl/cardboard.

i have been searching for a stock metal radio delete plate with the white p script, period correct of course, with no luck. actually i watched a couple ebay auctions command some outrageous prices. i am a firm believer that owning one of these cars does not have to break the bank as long as your creative or very resourceful.
i work for a commercial printer as a graphic designer so i have access to some decent high end equipment. it is really just a printout with a regular head unit plastic frame attached with 3m d-sided tape. for the people in the industry it is a fuji final proof printout (4 color process films laminated to gloss card stock). i got my R door handles from the R man himself, ernie wilberg. he was kind enough to make sure i got a set. i get a lot of thumbs up from the early p crowd on them and a lot of "when you gonna get those door handles rechromed" from everyone else. same reaction to my "missing" center caps and torsion bar covers, custom engine grille, one wiper, etc. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1080624312.jpg |
Thanks Bob. As I've said many times; "cool car". Its photo graces the home computer's screen. Even my wife hasn't changed the image to some cute dog or something for two months! That's staying power.

I was thinking to some how use a mini-pod in place of a radio/CD player.
Any ideas on how to "amp" it up to drive a couple of speakers? Head phones are illegal in MN, but cell phone ear pieces are not, go figure. I've tried a boom box but the ride is too hard and the CD skips. I agree with DanTheCat long drives do require a music source. |
