Oh, and get out of the tourist area and see the windward side of the island. Just take H3 into Kailua...find Kailua beach...and take a walk. Go to northshore and find Shave Ice (sno cone...not ShaveD but shave) place...get the beans at the bottom too...

Having lived there for several years I do understand it is slang for a non-islander. I personally don't take any offense...what do I care if an islander calls me a Haole...I AM a white non-islander.

Now if it is pronounced as you say...I agree...tighten your belt and run...
