VIN 307839, is it a 67S?

Can't seem to find an accurate way to determine what VIN designation the S's of this year had.

If I'm reading the Red Book right, in '67, all S models had S as the last digit of the VIN. The book gives the following ranges for coupes.

normal 911 coupes: 305101-308522
S model coupes: 305101S-308523S

hope this helps.

This is correct. If the VIN does not end in "S", it is a 911 model, not a 911S. Check this thread and others on the Early S Registry forum for more info on ID'ing an early S car.

There are some 67s that did not have the "S" stamped on the VIN plate. The model on the plate WAS listed as a type 911S.

Check the VIN stamped in the frame in the trunk. Even if the VIN plate does not have the S, the VIN stamp in the frame will. Other things to look for. Engine serial number/ type, 40 IDS carbs not IDA. Rear sway bar. Alloy calipers up front.

Good Luck!

ok, it does have an S it's just in a different font and looked like it might not be part of the actual VIN#. The Title shows S as well, it does have aluminum calipers, and a rear swaybar. I'm feeling pretty good it's an S. Thanks all

Not all '67S Type 901/02 engines had 40IDS carbs. The early ones had 40IDAs (until engine #960502).

Brake calipers were not alloy in 1967 either, they were Ate cast iron "L" calipers. Alloy calipers were introduced on the "S" in 1969, along with redesigned A-arms and struts. It is possible the struts were upgraded on this car at some point in the past, as this was common. The caliper bolt spacing on the early "S" was 3", and the alloy calipers after '69 use 3.5"- they are not a bolt-on upgrade unless you replace the struts.

I have never seen a true "S" that did not have the "S" stamped in the VIN plate, both in the "Type" field and the VIN field, which is not to say that it never happened... The stamp on the trunk crossmember by the gas tank should be definitive, though, as the little aluminum VIN plate is just rivited on and can be easily replaced/altered.
