Parking/Driving light fuses...still down..

I thought I had nalied this thing today, but not so...

I've gone through 5 5amp fuses on the number 18 port of the fuse box..."Left side parking light/front and rear". Put a new one in, turn on the lights, then boom..burnt fuse.

I've also searched the heck out of this site yet am coming up empty handed on the symptoms so I can compare.

Headlights are fine, turn indicators are fine, parking lights(front and rear) right side are fine...

Is there a relay I should be looking at...?? Also, I had heard that the engine comparment light may be on that same wire...and that hasn't been working..

I'm at a real loss now..

Phattey...

You have a short to ground "down stream" of the fuse in this circuit. The engine compartment light is on this circuit and I would check it and it's switch for a bare connector or wire contacting the body sheet metal (deck lid or hinge). Jim

Phattey, did you do anything to the car recently? The reason I ask is that I had the same problem after installing the rocker deco kit on my 67 912. I had apparently cut into the wires when I inserted the studs that hold the deco piece on. I took it to a shop and it cost me $50 to fix. I agree with Jim. Somewhere you have a short where metal is contacting an exposed portion of the wire.

Good luck, David

I've done a couple of things recently...

Replaced the shiftrod and ball socket bushings, replaced the worn engine deck lid shock.

I replaced a bulb in the engine compartment, but it didn't work.

Also, the latch that helps support the rear condensor fell off...it had only 1 of 2 screws holding it in. I just haven't put it back on...

That's really about it...

???

The rear deck shock work and or changing the bulb have done something. Look closely for a bare wire or lug/contact up against bare metal. Check the shock mounting area for close proximity to the deck light wire/switch. Take the light assembly and it's switch off the deck lid and see if the short goes away. Jim
