Whine

I just read in a slightly old issue of Excellence that it's common to hear a whine from the back, if the fan belt or alternator belt is too tight. It stresses the alternator bearings and causes failure.

Has anyone had this problem before?

The article said if you take off the excess pressure the problem may correct it's self.

it's noisy back there with the lid up.. but the info is very correct.
also a winter lay up with very tight alt belt will flat spot the bearing.
My routine is as loose as possible. after a new belt is broken in.
I'll whack the accelerator in the eng comp and look for the loose belt flapping.. then I'll tighten only enough to prevent the fast throttle flapping.. then test every once in a great while..

Thanks for the advice. I learned the hard way, never tighen up a real old belt.

This belt is broken in, time to give it a over 1/4" play. I think its at or under 1/8" play, that is to tight for me.
