Power antenna replacement

My friend's '82 Targa SC has the factory power antenna. The telescoping and goes up part way and binds. It is completely frozen. The motor can be heard for awhile until it stops. Isuspect replacing the antenna wand is all that is needed. Can anyone give me advice on what to buy (smooth or toothed push cable) without having to dissect this deal?
Thanks.

It might depend on what make it is. Mine was a toothed belt but I'm not sure if it was the original arial at that time. Might be best just removing the shaft to see.

Edit: Due to poor spelling

Look at the top surface of the mast - there will be some identifying info if it is a Hirschmann.
Then go here...
