squirrely ES-100 tires

My Yoko ES-100 tires still feel very squirrely at higher speeds - above 60 mph. (It's so bad that I'm afaraid to take the car over 110 mph now....)

They are somewhat "new" - I purchased them in late Oct. and have put 200 miles on them since. I thought maybe they still have mold release, but after 200 miles shouldn't that be removed?

Has anyone else noticed this with ES-100s?

Have your alignment checked. Bet that's the problem.

Is there shake in the steering wheel? If yes, have your tires re-balanced.

Squirreliness is generally a symptom of alignement.

Mine were "squirrely" for about 250 miles...but I put over 800 miles on my car per week...and very shortly afterwards, they stuck like glue and are sticking like glue ever since.

Perhaps you need to drive your car more often to break them in. No offense, but 200 miles since Oct. is not nearly enough, IMO.

I have a set on my car with no miles on them, it might take me a while to get 250 plus miles on them, hope this is just a one off case, and your alignment was off.

The last set of new tires I bought took over 700 miles to "settle in"....the car was very squirrely ( in a micro-movement sort of way) until that time...then it stuck like glue...

Thx folks.

BTW, last tires were fine (tho old & hard)

and, "200 miles since Oct. is not nearly enough" - I agree! No offense taken. I don't drive much in rain and live in Oregon - so we are just now getting rain free here (and it's early for the dry season).

I was really surprised to find the tread on these tires so agressive looking. Can't wait to get my car back from the shop and get some miles on them.

I have the same tires on my 1977 Targa. They stuck like glue from day one, but it was my first time really driving the car.

The original tires were an accident waiting to happen.

The Yokohamas hate cold temps- peroid.

Add in cold rain or a little snow and you better crawl home.

I agree with kach, the don't perform well when the temp is below 60 degrees. I scrubbed mine in real hard when I first got them & they are awesome. I took them out recently when it was fairly cold & they slide all over the place.

Wow - well that settles it -- I'll get SO-3's next time. It is often below 60 oF here -- and the same must be true in Taco-ma, Paul...
