				915 case swap

This seems straightforeward, which is where things go wrong...

How difficult is it to swap the known-good guts out of a 915 transmission with a cracked bellhousing into another case? The bellhousing area is cracked, and all other areas are definitely good. The plan is to swap just the main case. Re-setting the ring and pinion isn't a problem, but what about shimming the shafts for a (possibly) different case depth, or is that not really an issue? thanks Doug

I don't have the spec handy, but swaping the guts shouldn't be a problem subject to determining the right number of shims under the shaft retaining plates. If you keep the end cap and main case you won't have to worry about mating the roller bearings on each shafts with their respective races. Make sure your clutch release system is the same on the donor bell housing. Good Luck.
