Mid Ohio...Interesting Weekend

So I just returned from my first Nasa event at Mid Ohio. To say the least it was very interesting. Saturday morning started out with a wet track. By the early morning things dried out and the surface was in primo shape.

Even got as a good shot of my 6 year old watching

Weather forecast was a little suspect and then I awoke to this!

The event was on so I headed out for my first run. Back to street tires, very cold and very wet. Learned the 911 is a very very difficult car to drive on a wet track. Highlight of the run was a Suburu WRX who spun twice. I'd say overconfidence was abound.

John

I was thinking about you guys

I was thinking about you all at the event, as my M3 friends were there, one running in GTS and the other in HPDE. Yesterday it was 50 here and today we awoke to 3 inches of snow in Solon!

Did you run R-compound tires at your first DE?

I think the coldest I've ever been is April DE's at Mid-Ohio. You start out cold and then get in a car and drive around the track with the windows open. I've started waiting until Late March and May to go. Our region is going to be there Friday and Saturday.

It was pretty rough even Saturday as it was very cold. I didn't prepare very well from a clothing standpoint but it worked out fine. Sunday was murder. No snow scraper and only a set of work gloves. You needed a prka and winter hat as the temp was 31 degrees for the first session. There were only two cars in the bog bore opening sessions. Probably 40 cars ran this morning. with the only incident being the Subura who spun in my group twice. Driving Mid Ohio on a wet track was tough enough without the cold air freezing you out.
I ran Kihmo V700's on Saturday and switched to my Toyo street tires for Sunday.

Holy cow - that's makes some of our recent weather at Summit Point seem like a weekend at the beach

Nice to see your son participating with you and hope it all worked out in the end.
