Return Oil Lines. How hard to replace?

Was wondering how difficult it is to replace the return lines???I am looking at a car that has them leaking and curious if its a big expense..........

Thanks,

Ed

if you mean the oil return tubes from the heads to the case.....some years are harder than others.
i know on carreras the drivers side is a ***** without pulling the heat exchangers....passenger side is easy.

the tubes are easy, getting to them is the hard part. i was quoted $400 to have all four changed by a mechanic once. seemed like a decent price. i ended up, just changing the one leaky one by myself, just because...

Oil Return Tubes

On my car, the job wouldn't have been too bad, if I had a decent set of tru-arc ring pliers.

I had a cheap set and every time the clip slipped out, my fingertips got crushed in the grips -- very painful.

Invest in a good set of pliers; you'll need a few different pin angles.

Ed, I just did this on my 85 and it wasn't too bad. The biggest problem that I had were extending the tubes while putting them in. I lubed the sh$t out of them with a silicon paste and then tried extending them a few times before I got them lined up under the car. Sometimes they would extend very easily and sometimes I couldn't get them to budge. Like they had formed a vacuum with the o-rings. I went the route of using hose clamps to get something to hold onto while extending them. Pain in the arse but doable. On the carrera you have to remove both drivers sides first and install the front then the rear (thanks JW for that one). 4 hour job. And not a drop to be seen.
