head studs check

How am I checking for broken head studs when I adjust the valves for the first time on my 87?

you will see the head nuts in the dry space next to the rocker arms. if they're in place, that's good. if they're laying loose, with a section of stud, that's not good.

Pull off valve covers, look for broken studs (usually barrel nut and short piece of stud) laying between the rocker arms or the piece will just fall out. Keep in mind, broken studs tend to happen more often in the SC's then the Carreras (not to say they don't happen to the 3.2's, but definitely more rare).

Thank you.
Considering I am keeping my fingers crossed on this one. I just bought it from guy moving to texas. Its a super clean car, no paint work, no oil leaks, and 46k. I was nervous about the head studs, and valve guides. Hopefully I am not going to find any loose goodies this weekend.
I didn't have anyone else look it over before I bought it.......I know....I know.
