For Targa owners only

It's been cold here in MA but with the car filled with water from a week of downpours, I've been trying to get residual water out by driving with the top off and just found a heating trick.

If the passenger window is all the way up and the driver's window is about 2 inches down from all the way up, airflow in the car pushes all the heat to the driver and there's little internal turbulence.

Conversely, if driver window is up and pass a little down, you get a strong, turbulent, cold draft.

These downpours certainly suck, especially when I have to connect EVERYTHING else after putting my engine in. I got the 4 bolts holding the engine/trans up... then BAM rain. The weather on TV said it was supposed to be nice.

That is if the brush fires, mud slides, $2.50 per gallon for crappy, power-sucking 91 octane gas, housing costs that make an Upper East Side 2-level Brownstone look like a bargain, and the Governator and massive bond debt doesn't do them all in first.

Actually, I love CA. It's a great place to go for business each month and find cars and drive them back to the East Coast.

Come to think of it,That is another good reason for owning a Coupe out here, Falling chunks of concrete and stuff.
Or in a Riot it's like a helmet when the bricks start flying.

But if the whole overpass drops down on you, Or their throwing lead at you, All bets are off.

I'm not kidding either Well kinda

Yes, unfortunately they are on the street, just outside Harvard Square toward Watertown in between the river and Brattle.

It's a great little neighborhood with tons of parking, believe it or not!

The Targa was broken into once, but that's it. I'd love to rent a garage in the area.

Where are you these days? Have you been back recently?

Unhappy Feel youpain, brother

Shaun -

I feel your pain. After working on my '71 Targa all winter and trying to restart yesterday, it appears the starter decided it doesn't like the weather either. Maybe it'll work when the sun reappears At least we can take the tops off and row

Shaun,

These days i'm up in the north shore, way up! to tell you the truth, i've driven through Cambridge about 2 times in the last 9 years, in the 911 no less, also been to the House of Blues in Harv. sq for some Reggae.

But that's about it, i should visit more often though and see how things have changed.

Where do you all store your targa?

I have been folding it and putting it in the front trunk top side up, about mid-way, long dimension width to width.

Is there a prefered method or position? Guess I should read the owners mannual sometime.

storing your Targa top

Katch -

Don't fold it! It'll lead to premature failure of both top and inner liner. I've found the best place to store the top is to slide it behind backs, unfolded.

If you get good it you can remove it and slide it behind the seats without ever getting out of the car!

Don't the people in massachussets (sp?) have another name for their state "TAXACHUSSETS". By the way has the winter thaw started there yet?Can you take the Porsche out of winter storage yet? Yes we have the govenator but you have Barney Frank and 3 fingers of Chivas Kennedy to contend with. Looks like we both lose. No wavysmile here just a happy face :-)

I do this too. I've only folded my recently reupholstered and refurbished top once, and things have already started to come loose. So I don't fold mine anymore.

Yes the winter thaw started. I took home my Targa on a beautiful February day, only to find her covered in snow multiple times . Ironically, she got put in the garage today, because the engine went into the car, freeing up the garage! I can't wait for this rain to stop and go on my maiden voyage!

Fold no more

Slide it behind the seats with the prongs facing the floor? Won't it rock around on fast tight turns?

I read that some people will fold down the rear seat and lay it down. Will it even fit that way?

I will not be folding it anymore in either case. Thank you all for the input.

Seen the long term forecast? Looks like we're in for 40 days and 40 nights. Ark anyone?

I've been leaving it in the garage when out for a spin, havn't folded it since I learned here it's bad for it. I have put it behind the seats for the long runs or night driving and seems to stay put even on twisties.

Spring comes to New England in early May, summer in late May. Die hards have had the tops off their Targas, in dry weather, since mid-March. Brrr! Gotta fix that heater fan.
