OEM Hood & Deck Lid Shocks
Are there "HEAVY DUTY" OEM Hood and Deck Shocks? I know that there are after-market "HEAVY DUTY" Hood and Deck Shocks but I would like OEM. If yes, are the "Heavy Duty" OEM rear deck shocks a double shock or a single shock. I would prefer a single "HEAVY DUTY" rear deck shock but want OEM. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I took the car out of storage yesterday, it took about 25 tries at 5 seconds each to start - but it finally fired and then all was well. Any insight on why on earth it would take 25 tries? DCN 911 1988 911 Coupe Toronto, Canada

I can help you with your fist question about the engine hood shocks. I have recently replaced mine. I purchased mine from the Porsche dealer at a suprisingly realistic price. When I ordered them he asked if I had a rear spoiler which I do and I recieved a heavier duty part. They work fine with my tail and have quite a deal of resistance when closing the lid.
Hope this helps. Todd 911SC. |

I installed the single heavy duty shock that our host provided and it holds up a 76 turbo whale tail no problem. The tail is slightly lighter than a carrera tail.

When she finally fired after 25 tries, did you have one or two cylinders firing, lots of smoke, etc? Or did it suddenly just start and run smoothly?

25 tries at starting
I had a full tank of Sunoco 96 gas with STABIL in it and had all fluids changed immediatly prior to winter storage. I even had a new fuel filter put in for good measure.
The vehicle was in storage for 5 months. When it finally started, I was just about to call it quits, it started really really really really slowly. It made me think of the story about the little engine that could. I have no idea how many cylinders were firing but there was a lot of thick white smoke for about 20 seconds - then, the clouds parted, the sky opened, angels started singing and everything was fine. Now she starts perfect first try, no smoke and runs like a champ. 25 tries seems strange, I am really at a loss Any thoughts? DCN 911 |
