interior rebuilding.......pic

it all started when i wanted to freshen up my interior.......
ended up going all the way down and por-15ing the tub,
then i ran wires for audio stuff and wiring for a dual CHT guage (thanks roninlb)
then dynamat.....then "lightweight" 1/2" foam padding (this helped hide the wires
then the carpet, this is as close to the soft factory stuff i could find, but is damn close.....it took some time to source this stuff.....
and ready to recover the stock side/rear panels/console with black vinyl, stripped these down too.
seats are being dyed.........
so it went in with a red interior and will come out all black with about $180 invested.........(dynamat and all)
$500 for a new carpet kit?.......i don't think so

here's a pic (the boxes in front of the seat rails are for my 5.1/4 speakers)

here's a pic of the rear......i always loved the red interior.....so i smacked a piece of it in the corner as sort of a "reminder"......if it starts to irritate me i can remove it
i ended up recovering everything except the targa bar hoop.
there is an RS parcel tray going in at hershey which will finish the rear
also my seats are back and now black......haven't taken pics yet but should be able to sunday.

Nice Bell, I just redid mine in all black as well. I'll post some pics when I get the passenger seat back in. Right now I need the extra room to haul parts.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you source dynamat and carpet for under $180? I've been looking at doing the same job on my car, but can't justify the expense. If I could do the whole thing for under $200, I'd start tomorrow! How long did it take you to get all the old stuff out?

Thanks,

Dan

took a full day to remove everything.....the stock sound mats just flaked out so i was lucky and didn't need to use heat.
if you have the means to order wholesale you can get 39 sq ft of dynamat for about $80 (like i did) of the original from a place called "wholesale house"...they carry crap mainly but do have deals .
the carpet was about $40.....again wholesale from one of my box suppliers.....i could only get a small ammount without orderering a 50yard roll, which is why there is a different black which the rs tray will hide
the vinyl is a quality 3 way stretchable about $7/yd, i had no problem with recovering the center console, i'll post pics of that and more later.

Looks fantastic! I'm heading into my interior soon so any additional info or 'best practice' tips would be great.

the one thing i found to be the most helpfull was a quality 2" paint scraper regularly "sharpened" to remove the tiny bits of carpet left after you pull it, these little buggers will torment you if your carpet comes out in pieces, it will scrape the paint underneath up though.....which is why i used the por15 to seal everything back up, i used about 3/4 of a quart.

Bummer -- I don't think I have the means to order wholesale. Thanks for the info, though. : ) Your install really looks great!

Dang Bell, another red interior bites the dust...

I have thought of doing black carpet and leaving the seats and leather door panels red...

i was going to leave the console red, along with some other bits.........but decided all black will help me keep it looking "stock", the door panels i think will blend in nicely.......but if it doesn't look the part i'll end up changing it, so far i think i'm headed in the right dirrection, the door handles are another story

here is a pic of the newly covered center console (with my sirius tuner flushed, yes i know it's crooked lol).
and the last coat of glass on the doors.

here's one of the door panels, i still need to trim the vinyl where the speaker mounts and make the grill.....
and these aren't as thick as they look, they are about 1/2" shallower than the stock door pockets

padded pre-vinyl

post-vinyl

and my seats are black, i still need to work out some loose spots on them
