Hershey Swap

Hi, just wondering the savings (rough average) I can expect when I get there. I need to pick up some plug wires and front shocks for a 77 911. Is $200 even in the ballpark. I have heard $0.25 on the dollar but that seems a bit optomistic to me. I am just trying to weigh going or not.

Thanks,

David

I don't think you're gonna save 75% on new parts at Hershey. It's more a place to get deals on hard-to-find used stuff, though there are deals on some new items. For example, you can buy a case of new Mahle oil filters for a song. But I don't think new plug wires and shocks will go much cheaper than you can find them in cheap online catalogues. Though you'll save on shipping and/or sales tax on anything you buy.

Gotta get there early, 07:30 before all the good stuff is gone. Richard is right, not that much difference in pricing on new parts.

How about used stuff? I am just wondering if it is worth my time to go.

I don't mind buying used stuff if it is in good shape. Is there a lot of used stuff for sale there. What are my chances of finding used shocks and wires down there?

Sorry for all the questions, I am just a bit reluctant to drive 12 hours or so to find prices I can get online.

Does the swap start Friday or Saturday? I would be leaving Friday morning from Boston.

Thanks again,

David

My $0.02 worth about hershy,Yes it can be a great place to get deals ,but you had better know just what you want and what it looks like.It will be your responsibilty to correctly ID the part you want.It would also serve you well to know the prices of those parts. These are semple thoughs but very true. See you there , Randy

Dude, if you just want to go to buy two new things, save the drive and order them online (and save gas and hotel money). My new wheels just blew my Porsche budget for the year, but I still want to go and have a look around at all the great cars, memorabilia and maybe stumble upon something I can't live without my fiancee buying for me. If the weather is nice, this event is truly a sight to behold. You can't imagine. It's just a vast sea of amazing cars in the parking lot and then a lot of hard-to-find stuff floating around for sale.

Teh swap meet is on Saturday, 4/24. Hershey is a fun event. Not everyone that attends is shopping for parts. Many folks attend to see other people's cars (a lot of cars attend) and get ideas on modifications, updates, literature, new products on the market etc. Also, half the fun is caravaning to and from Hershey.

There seems to be a lot of folks coming in from Mass. so try and hook up with fellow owners and enjoy the weekend drive.

My T&E is basically free, I just have to chip in for gas, hotel is free. It sounds like I won't benefit much from going as far as buying parts go.

Maybe I will just go for R&R.

Thanks,

David

There are some good deals on some new parts there. Steven Stomski (Stomski Racing) was selling his rear monoballs there last year for $180/pair. http://www.stomskiracing.com/products.html No affiliation, just a nice guy with a nice product and price. I'll go if its not pouring down like last year.
