3 CV boots failed in 300 miles?
I had two outer CV boots fail at the CFoS race last weekend. I replaced both of them and then 90 minutes later an inside CV boot failed.
I have not had any CV boot failures in the last 2 years. The only change was that I had just lowered the ride heigth of the car. Another car with the same ride height set by the same shop did not have any CV boot problems. I have been told some Ruff cars do not use the boot clamp on the axle end of the boot. Instead they just let the small end of the boot float on the axle. I might try that, any suggestions? I need some kevlar boots. ![]() |

I didn't use the boot clamp on the axel side either...primarily because I didn't have the proper tool to connect them and also because some of my racing buddies had noted a similar problem to the one you describe. Ended up just securing it with a plastic tie.

Mike,
I assume you are using stock boots? You need the compact boot - less bellows to flap about, fill with grease, go eccentric, tear, etc. If Pelican can not supply them, email me, I will set you in another direction. Regards Hayden |

I ordered mine from Pelican. They were the tiny ones and I was afraid they were wrong. But they worked fine.
I think your car sees much higher speeds on the track and that puts additional stress on the boots. If they were old viola. Same happened to me. And what mess cleaning all that grease up. Ingo
