Clutch "Feel"

The other day someone else drove my car and commented that the clutch did not have much feel to it and was too abrubt in engaging / disengaging. Previously, I hadn't really noticed, but after hearing these comments I paid more attention to the feel and would also describe the engaging and disengaging as more of a switch than a linear progression. It does occurr about halfway through the travel of the clutch pedal.

Do I need to adjust the clutch? Replace cable? Or is this a normal feel to the clutch?

Our clutches like our brakes engage in a shorter pedal travel (at least the cars I've driven). I think it's a part of driving a high performance machine.

But I do have some pedal travel. When you say it is more like a switch are you just saying that it's got a shorter travel than a honda or something, or is it so short that every shift is abrupt and jerks the car?

It's not so abrubut that it jerks the car when I drive it. Definately less travel on engagement than other cars, but I accept the difference from other cars. But, I would like a little better feel during the transition and am curious if anyone else has notice this prior to adjustment.

John,

It sounds like your clutch doesn't have much freeplay. Try adjusting until your freeplay is between 3/4" and 1" ... and, I think your clutch will be less 'switch-like' and engagement will be closer to the floor.

Warren,

I don't have the 101 projects book with me, but I don't see anything in the Pelican Tech article about adjusting the freeplay. Is there another adjustment other than the clearance gap on the adjustment screw?

Your clutch is fine. Leave it be.
