My new wheels
This is my new car: a '73 RSR clone disguised as a '74 RS and built around a '75 chassis.
Most of you know the story: The previous owner couldn't find an original '73 RSR, so he spent very close to $200,000 building what represents an assortment of RennSport flavours rather than a faithful '73 RSR clone, which makes sense as this guy wanted something he could drive to work. ![]() The wheels on this car are genuine 9&11x15" RSR Fuchs -- the spare wheels for this car: ![]() An original '73 RSR. This RSR has been in Australia since the early 80s, and is owned by the guy who has just bought the "spare" Fuchs off me! ![]() That's right: I sold the genuine RSR Fuchs! These wheels are the next best thing after the twin plug, MFI 2.9 that powers this clone. But I would need to be as wealthy as the guy who built the clone to race it on the 15s -- the only competition rubber available for these monstrous 15s are slicks, and slicks would put me in Open class, currently dominated by ex-Carrera Cup GT3s -- on slicks! So, to be competitive in my class -- Modified 2 -- I had to find a set of 16 or 17" wheels. As far as off-the-shelf wheels, there's nothing out there that I like -- I have a penchant for deep-dish Fuchs! I wanted something that evoked the 15" RSR Fuchs but could be shod with R-spec tyres. The solution: a set of custom-made, 17" Fuchs replicas made by a Melbourne-based chap who made the 17s that you can see on this car: ![]() A '74 RSR replica, owned and piloted buy a guy who has won the last two Classic Adelaide tarmac rallies. http://www.classicadelaide.com.au/ca/index.asp My 9.5&11x17" wheels will be ready in three weeks time. They're going to have painted centres (black) and polished rims and centre caps. I think they're going to look good on the Batmobile, which, I'm sure, will feel more comfortable rolling along on replica wheels. Stay tuned!
