Pics from the Denver Pelican Get together on 20 Mar
Since the old planning thread (Denver Pelicanite Drive Sat Morning (20 Mar)) was a few pages long, I decided to post some photos on a new one. For those who came out please add to the collection:
Grady summed up the day best with his other post... Quote:
) A few pics of the drive. emptyo did a great job of keeping us together and keeping the bicyclists safe. We started out nice and fast with lots of twisties and slowed down on the straights to make sure everyone had caught up. We did all get to test our brakes one good time when we came up on a stop sign that none of us expected ![]() We stopped in Estes Park at the Stanley Hotel for a break. We lost a few folks who had other commitments. But we kept 3 Red, 2 Black, 2 White and 2 Silvers. While it was tempting to arrange them by color, we opted to just line them up random. ![]() This has to be one of the cleanest 914s out there and for sure the nicest I've seen. ![]() And here is a pic of the group of us, I'll list user name if known or first name if known and car. If anyone knows the ?s let me know. Top Row: Pat S(Red 74 911), Pat's wife Dani, ? (Silver Boxster), mikeferg75 (White 74 914), emptyo (Black 72 911) Second Row: Grady Clay, ? (Silver 914), ? (Silver 914), Ben Parrish (8? Red 911), BSiple (Black 86 911 Cab) Bottom Row: UTKarmann_Ghia (White 82 911 Targa), patcaulfield (Red 91 C4) patcaulfield's wife

Great pics thanks for the speedy post, and a great time was had by me for sure. It was great to put faces with names, and had a blast blowing the cob webs out of the car. (this was it's first "real" drive since October).
Look forward to doing it again real soon. Michael Ferguson

Looks as if you had a great time. I thought about you guys a few times today as I attempted to remove the cat/muffler to replace it with the euro pre muff and the dansk. Would you believe that I could not get ANY of the 9 nuts off and that was after 48 hrs of PB blaster. I ended up using the dremel! At least the '78 has a few more ponies, sounds great and sits 24.5 in the front and 24 in the rear........a good trade off.
Hope to be able to join you guys next time out.

Wow! Thanks for the great pix, Pat. I haven't seen that part of the world (e.g. Estes Park) since 1977!

That really looks like a great group of cars and poeple. Nice to see the 911s, 914s and a Boxster all out for a good run.
I think mixed groups show the attributes of the various models when they are side by side in the parking lot and in line on the road. To complete the air cooled contingent, all you needed was 356.

Isn't Estes Park up at 10,000 ft or so? Shouldn't there be snow up there at this time of year?
Beautiful pictures, by the way!

This was a GREAT time. It was really "cool" looking in my rear view mirror and seeing nothing but Porsche's filled with such nice people. Lunch in Estes was really great; sitting next to Grady and listening to his stories was deffinetly a high point of the day. I really enjoyed meeting everyone and hope we all get together soon. When we do it again I hope that more can attend.

Yesterday was GREAT. I noticed that I had tire dust behind both front and rear wheel arches after the run. I don't think it was brake dust because I only used them hard at the infamous stop sign in Ward.
Thanks Pat for get everyone together. Pat Caulfield 91 C4 |

I wish I could have joined you but was tied up with kid activities. I hope to make the next one and meet some true porschefiles.
I wish there was more snow up in those hills. I would like to be able to wash my car sometime this summer!!!

Great pics - looks like some awesome roads as well.
It's been 20 years since I've visited that area but I still remember the Stanley Hotel - do they still have that Steamer running ?????

Thanks for the pictures, looks like you all had a great day! The weather in Michigan was a "typical early spring" day, which means "cold and nasty"... Cabin fever is terminal at this point! Note my avatar!!!

I am sorry I had to punched early after Ward to go off to soccer prison (my son does club soccer). It was fun to meet all of you guys too. I would humbly suggest you guys check out our local PCA chapter, the Rocky Mt. Region. We are a good group of gearhead/track junkies and we have fun on all the track venues we are blessed with here in Colorado. Next weekend is our road rally down in Castlerock. Check out our homepage for details (www.pca.org/rmr). Until the next ride...
Bill Oh I turned on the insurance on my '72 today, it rocks way more than my cruiser SC.

I love Estes Park, especially the drive up there from Loveland, where I spent my early years growing up throughout junior high and high school.
Looks as though you guys had a great drive! And everyone safe as well! Boy, I sure do miss Colorado... Chris |

Doug:
Don't know if the Steamer was running, but it was sitting in the corner of the lobby, looking green and new. Pat |
