warped valve covers

Set of the turbo valve covers seem to be warped by about .015 thou. Can I send them to my local machine shop and have them milled? or do I just throw them away?

You can run them on a belt sander with a fine grit loop to true them up.

they're actually pretty flexable when you tighten down the nuts.

My guess is they would probably seal OK with a set of silicone bead gaskets. I can't imagine you'd pay less getting them surface ground at a machine shop than you would buying new ones.

If you can't get them to seal, you can also try lapping them on a sheet of plate glass with some valve grinding paste or some 600 grit wet-dry sandpaper glued to the glass surface. This is how I true of the soles of hand planes, which need to be dead flat to work well.
