H1 headlight cost?

If anyone has purchased H-1 headlights in the last few years (I hear they are unobtaniable in the US now) could you post the price paid on this thread?
BTW, I am asking about the dual bulb H1's NOT the H4's (with a single bulb). Thx!

I paid about 200 bucks for mine. Back in '75. Less than I paid for the spare lenses now on my garage shelf. Clear lenses, not "yeller", which seems to be the current fad. Seriously Randy? I don't feel that the current "premium" paid for H-1's over H-4's is worth the price, speaking visually. Both are really close as far as what you can see at night goes. I'd give the edge to H-4 on low beam, H-1 on high. But what the hell...these are the days when people serously consider paying $750 for an "original" 1969 911 factory supplied tool kit. The universe is completely INSANE! (apologies to R. Crumb)

Okay excuse my ignorance, I have got two complete headlight assemblies from a '68 912, would these be H-1? If so you can have both the complete assemblies for $100 plus shipping.

I think I paid around $200-$250 for mine a couple of year's ago. The problem is the trim rings are dented and they are no longer available. I have found a company to restore and rechrome the rings. A couple of the adjustment screws are rough as well and - of course - replacement screws are nowhere to be found ....... one of these days, I'll get them finished .... the H4's are fine for now. -- Curt

I picked mine up about 18 months ago for $300 on eBay. They are near-mint condition.

My car has H1's and frankly I don't know what's so great about them. The only thing that is kind of cool is the look of the separation between the beams. Sort of like a crescent shape when they're on.

More than likely, if "original" USA equipment for a '68? The lights themselves are 7" round USA style sealed beams. USA lighting laws were pretty archaic back in the day...

I missed a pair of new for $730 with two sets of trim rings.. Then I bought a pair a month ago for $500. Slightly used not NOS. I saw a pair of used two or three weeks ago that started at $250 and got no bids.

Now I'm on the hunt for new chrome trim rings. The used set is still very presentable but has a couple of dimples.

I've got the same problem as Curt. I've been trying to take apart my H1's to refinish them and replace a couple of the screws. Mine are wasted. Any advice on taking the rings/screws apart?

Dismantling a H1 HEADLIGHT is not as hard as it looks, now, putting it back together so it works right is another story. take some close up digital pictures of the lights before you take them apart( if you could leave one together and do them one at a time that would be great but it would cost to much to do it that way ) rechroming the ring is not the problem it's the reflectors they need to be like glass mirrors not shinny aluminum that's what makes them so nice, flipping on your high beams with a brand new set of H1's with 150watt bulbs is like having the power of the sun, I live at the foot of Mt.Baldy and when I put my H1's in I went for a drive and flipped on the highs it was like daylight, but when the reflectors are dull you might as well be running H4's, if you try to clean the reflectors the finish will just rub right off, I know I've tried, it's what is called a front surface coating like what's on the mirrors in SLR cameras, some people have chromed there reflectors but it's just not the same, a friend of mine had a process done which he says is a lot like powder coating I'm going to look at it tomorrow and compare it to a set of like new reflectors I have, if this is a good finish I'll let everyone know.

I've sold several pairs over the past couple of years - good used sets with undamaged chrome rims & all adjuster screws intact & working. price for each pair has been $450-$550.

So I have the entire headlight apart now. What I can't figure out is how to remove the adjusting screws from the chrome trim ring. Any ideas?

if you are talking about the locks that hold the screws in place you can either try to work them down or cut them of off, either way these are items that can be replaced.

Sam, thanks for the info. Now I'm not worried about cutting or just tweaking them them off. Any ideas on where I can those locks though? What about separating the two screws that adjust the high beam? Any updates on your friend and the "refinishing" of the reflectors?

Sent you an email earlier today asking the same questions.

I just walked in the door,I've been gone all day ( moving my 67 up to Andial) any good hardware store should have crimp on style locks, as for the spring if you grab it with a pliers and twist it should unscrew off of the screw, and I stopped by and looked at the finish on my friends reflector and it looks great, check it out

the only thing is the parts have to be completely dismantled and there talking about a hunderd pieces to make it cost effective

I paid 500$ last year after looking for 1.5 years. Now they seem to be all over the place. There is also a company that makes them again for 300$ per pair.
