bigger motor...lighter car
My Rs is coming out of the painters in a week and I'm getting everything lined up to go back in/on...3.0 going into a former 73T that has lost about 150 lbs. I have all the engine compartment ignition and fuel components...so I don't need to convert the older 2.4 equipment...I have the tach and fuel pump for the '79 3.0. I would like to find a couple links or earlier threads that diagram and explain the ignition parts and the CIS components so I can feel confident that all the wires and hoses are ending up in the correct place. Also....the harness for the 3.0 ignition...that ties into the car harness was cut off the donor car. It has at least 12 wires that want to be tied into the car harness...a diagram for this would also be helpful. Finally, as I look around for replacement plug wires....I've been encouraged to install a CD system to replace the stock ignition...coil, points etc and/or to at least move the coil to the left engine compartment wall to clean up the fan housing. I understand the potential performance gains to come from converting to a CD ignition....but what is the best component upgrade bang for the buck and can it be done in stages...or does it need to be done all at once. It would make sense to do it before the motor is back in the car as all the engine compartment is accessible. Link me please!!

Your '79 3.0 already has a CDI.
