Question question for modelers

I've seen a couple of posts re: cool models w/ a kajillion parts, something like a 1/8 scale or so. Anyone know where to find one?

What type of kit are you looking for? Any particular model?

What are your skill levels? Price limitations? There are several out there... Exoto models are pre-assembled.

There are a ton of good 1/24 scale models. Monogram and Revell have some basic/average skill Porsche models which are good for kids who are starting out.

Tamiya and Fujimi have more advanced Porsche models. 1/24 scale is best though as it is readily available and pretty inexpensive.

Well, if you want to do an absolute classic, look for the Porsche 934 by Tamiya or the 935 by Tamiya. They are 1/12 scale, over a foot long...

Of the two, the 934 is probably a bit "easier" becuase of the straight forward decal/paint scheme for the Jeigermeister livery.

The 935 Martini kit has some pretty major decal work that takes considerable experience to apply well.

Both kits build about the same, and are essentially the same kit chassis wise.

Your only going to find them on Ebay. The 935 ranges in the 120.00 to 200.00 price range depending on overall condition. The 934 ranges in the 95.00 to 140.00 range. They are both readily available. Check the search 'tamiya porsche' or 1/12 porsche.

If you want to get SUPER crazy detail wise you can go to the Scalemotorsports website and purchase the limited edition detail set for the 935. Lots of metal parts to basically build a damn near exact replica of the 935... It'll set you back an additional 500.00.

There are other kits out there, but these are by far the best over all exept for some of the resin kits available. But, if you've never done resin I would not recommend them. The Tamiya kits are no longer produced so they are truly classics.

I would love to find a good sized version of my lowly car. Does anyone actually bother with a common garden variety '73 911E?

The Doyusha is tough to find around, but is almost always on ebay too. It's a street turbo.

Jake... Good luck. Revell did a big RS at one point, but I haven't seen it for awhile. I'd check ebay on that too.

The pocher models are sweet, but very $$$. They have a really cool 1/8 fully operational 2.7 engine model that retails for something like 500.00 if you can find it...

For a race car in big scale, the Tamiya kits can't be beat...

search this BBS for models and you find some great threads. I think Wayne, our host, has a pretty large collection.
