Rubber Undercoating in Wheel Wells??

I'm almost done restoring the oil tank system for my 72 911.

I have cleaned the wheel well out to where you could eat off of it. I have POR15 a couple of rusty spots.

I also repainted with a brush the wheel well area on the inside by just dabbing on bits of paint where I had scraped in off during my cleaning process.

The area looks really good.

Should I follow it all with rubber undercoating or call it good now?

Thanks,
Ian

The Wurth Body Schutz (undercoating) is there to absorb impact from debris, dampen sound and afford water/rust protection. Some remove for weight but will lose some of the previously mentioned benefits.

A friend of mine who's a long-time body man has been redoing Porsches for the last 10 years. He said that he's used the Wurth undercoating, but recently has started using bedliner spray. He says that he likes the fact that it's sealed up nicely, dries with a texture, and hardens to the point where it can be scrubbed aggressively it road tar comes in contact with it.

Bedliner spray is a good idea, as well as the herculiner stuff if you want to brush it on. (migth want to dilute it a bit though)

There are outfits in Europe that make custom inner plastic liners that fit perfectly.....

If you think it's tough removing undercoating, try getting rid of bedliner coatings. It also doesnt have the "Rubbery Attitude" to absorb impact.
