It may be blasphemy, but working with a rally team that races Subaru's, they makes some great engines.

I think these are way cooler than the V8 conversions...

Makes more sense in a 914..........

and, you got part of your answer to why when it read, "Title: Salvage."

Interesting... would be more interesting if they managed a Subaru WRX engine in there...

But........why???

And I don't think the front end looks quite right. That grill is wonked.

Plus, you do a conversion to take a great chassis and put a better motor in it. Maybe its me, but I think Porsche makes some pretty nice motors. Motors that already fit.

I can't imagine there will be good value for the converter on the sale after all the other stuff he's put in.

So.........why?

Decent looking car. If you could get it cheap enough, you might be able to find a Porsche drivetrain and convert it to a Porsche. Just to put it out of it's misery.

They should have laws against stuff like this - i don't care if Subaru makes good engines - this car has been violated - porschenut has phrased it just perfect - "This is just wrong. It's just....well, wrong."

woo hoo!!!

I'd prefer the WRX motor myself...that'll be the 2nd swap...in a couple of years...

the rad needs to go in back though. too much plumbing...

their's isn't as reversible as mine.

plus it totally sounds the part....flat fours all make the same noises...

scooby motor in a 912.

I agree-why would you put this engine in that year of a car. Seems like a waste of time, but if the car was trashed and salvaged-what the hell. If you have the time and money....

In bang-for-buck terms, the Subaru motor _belongs_ in a 914. The B4 motors coming out of Japan are dirt cheap, twin-turbo'd, and make over 300 Hp. My buddy got his motor for $1400.00. His 914 will eat me for breakfast one day.

it's great cheap boxer power, but I agree it should only be used in rustbuckets saved from the crusher.

for the record, i support the aforementioned subaru turbo flat fours in the 912 and the 914 as well as potentially in a "save it from the crusher" 911. what i cringe at, however, is using the flat 6 from the svx or some "hi-output" derivative of the outback for a porsche. dressing it as a 993 does not help either.

very strange

not a car i'd want to own. a recent subaru magazine showed a conversion of an WRX from AWD to RWD.... If they needed a donor, the STi engine would have been best, they're 300hp, 4cyl, 2.5l, and the young owners will likely total them quickly leaving an inexpensive surplus...
