Oil line clamp

Hi, when cleaning my front wheel well on a 77 911, I noticed that one of the clamps holding one of the oil lines in place was missing. The screw is still there, just no clamp. Any quick fixes. I have ordered one but it seems to be taking a long time and I would really like to use this weekend.

Thanks,

David

Make a temporary one from "plumbers" tape (metal strip periodically punched with holes for screws or nails - used to hang pipe); cover with shrink tubing or electrical tape to avoid scratching paint. Jim

Thanks Jim,

Won't the electrical tape melt? I am not sure how hot the pipe gets. I could probably just skip the tape. The car is hardly concour material.

Thanks again,

David

The oil lines are quite rigid and aren't going to flop around. Should be okay to drive until you get the clamp.

But for the time being, you could use some of the flexible metal strapping used to hang plumbing piping. Comes in a small roll that looks like a roll of thick metal tape with holes in it. Should be able to get it at any hardware store.

Looks like this:

edit: Jim beat me to it!

How hot is your oil getting? The electrical tape I use (3M Scotch 33+) is rated for USE at 220F, it may get soft being in contact with the oil line but I doubt it will melt. You can just leave it off the strip though or as KTL suggests just don't worry about a clamp until you receive the correct part. Jim

The car actually runs quite cool, hardly ever gets above 80 C. I think that is 176F. I guess I would be fine then.

While I have your attentions, I will be replacing the inserts on my front struts this weekend. I have this black grease called mono something. Will that work for this job?

Thanks again.

I could have sworn my 101 project book said something had to be greased when changing an insert. Am I wrong? I hope so.
