Thanks for the heads up. I assume if they have no information on my car it is good or does it often come up without any info on some cars meaning it is incomplete??

I tried it on a possible purchase and it had no record. Maybe the VIN I have is wrong??? Or has anyone else experienced this?

Hmmm, my truck has had one minor accident and it is listed as no minor or major accidents. It has 83K miles and is listed as having 53.

Interesting, since I am now trying to sell the 3/4 ton in order to eliminate expenses.

Oh, I forgot, They also have all the information wrong on my '83:

Title plainly states the mileage is unknown (the odometer broke and the vehicle had several thousand miles not clocked after that) Carfax shows that the mileage is consistent and accurate (they give a buyback guarantee!).

Carfax shows as a one owner vehicle. I'm the third owner, but the trail shows as though I am the fourth owner.

Oh, my Targa is listed as a Convertible. Man, I didn't even know I had done that!

Thanks for this Lee,

I ran a Carfax on a 964 I had looked at about 3 weeks ago. Great price, but it had a salvage title which I was told was due to it being a theft recovery. Things just didn't feel right, and I walked away from it for a while. Checked back on the website (it was a small, private dealer)about a week later, and the car was listed as sold. Felt kind of bad until I pulled down the Carfax this morning and found that it had not only had an accident (right rear), but also had the salvage title due to severe flood damage down in Louisiana!

Glad I went with my head instead of my heart on that one, even before I went for the PPI. Thanks again for the heads-up on the free Carfax's.

Tom

P.S.: Carfax also noted a "Mileage Inconsistency" on this car: Was at 71k miles in 1998, but later (including when I looked at it) it only had 69k.

Carfax does have its issues, but at times they can be a wealth of information on something not to jump into too quickly.

T
