Large wrench sizes needed
What large size wrenches are needed to work on a 911 -- i.e. larger than 19 mm?
22mm is needed for something or other, right? there are the nuts on the steering wheel and on the rear swing plate adjusters - what sizxe there? what else? |
The steering wheel is held on by a 27mm nut... but you don't /can't use a wrench on it. You need a socket with extension.

maybe a full set of Harbor Freight 1/2in rachet, sockets, large wrenches, flex head rachets, etc. is inexpensive enough to get started. Then you'll know what items you'll need to dial in.. like the short Snap-On swivel sockets are a bit unique because they are very short.

32 and 36 for the oil lines

The trailing arm ride height adjustment requires thin 24 and 36mm wrenches. 22mm also fits the O2 sensor on cars with those.

I have, when necessary, that the pawn shop sometime has old large wrenches. I take them home to modify with a dremel tool. This gives me the right size at a modest cost.

22mm for rear lower shock bolts, inner banana arm bolts and front upper strut mounting nuts.

32mm 2/3-inch socket for rear hub.

Thanks folks - but let me clarify this. I am not purchasing wrenches. Instead I have a big Snap-On set of closed end wrenches. I notice that over the years I never use the big ones at all. I am thinking of putting the ones I will never need on eBay and clearing some space in my tool box.
So far, the only normal closed end wrench I see that is needed is the 22 mm one. True? It looks like everything else is either a special wrench (oil lines) or a socket. ... |
