Wevo camberking install Q

Anyone install the wevo camber king? Everything is assembled but the spacer that comes with the kit is too long and doesn't leave enough threads on the shock. Sorry I can't post a picture but if you've installed it, you'll know what I mean.
I have Boge struts with Bilstein sport shocks if that makes a difference.
Hayden, any help?

Don,

Have you removed the thick spacer (US ride height spacer) from the top of your struts? if not, do so, this part can not be accommodated in the stack of parts.
How much thread do you have protruding above the spacer when the strut is pushed all the way up?

Regards

Hayden

Hayden,
Yes, the spacer was removed when I put on the sport shocks. In my stack up, there is the thickness of the strut dust sheild plus a small rubber seal. My stack up below the mono ball is about .30".
My shock is protruding above the monoball 1.3. The spacer is 1.10" and my shock nut is just over .5" thick. I have just over 3 thread above the spacer.

If I remove the stack up, the shock protrudes just over 1.6" above the monoball. The nut is better but still doesn't have full thread engagement. I can probably get a narrower nut.

Does the dust shield have to be removed for these to work? I know that for more camber, they have to be gone but I thought the thickness still had to be there. I cut mine up and made a washer out it.

Don,

The .300" under the spherical bearing sounds like the issue here.

The kit was designed to allow for the thickness of the dust cover between the strut top and the spacer fitted inside the spherical bearing but not a cover .300" thick.

I have just searched the shop for a Bilstein dust cover - without success, but the Koni versions I have here are .170" thick, If I recall correctly, the Bilstein version is about .100" thick. I have some in storage I will pull out over the weekend.

Are you using Boge dust covers with the Bilstein damper insert? I wonder if this is why the Bilstein strut seems short, with all other length accounted for normally? I am not sure what purpose that seal has, I would not consider that necessary with out components. Can you show a pic of the seal?

This photo shows the stack with a Bilstein damper, no dust cover and O.E. nut. With the Bilstein dust cover installed, the nut will go flush with the end of the thread.

At this stage, it would be worth checking a few numbers;

The section of the strut that will insert through the Strut top assembly, should be 68mm long.

Can you also check the thickness through the dust cover hole.

The M14 x 1.5 O.E. nuts by part # N 011 021 3, are 10.8 mm thick.

I am sure there has been a variety of components used over the years. Not all matching the dimensions above, but close enough that the scale of error would not critically effect the installation.

Regards

Hayden,
I have Boge struts with Bilstein insert dampers. I was using the Boge dust covers. The dust cover is about .20" but is chamferred on the underside to seat on the damper. The actual stack up ends up to be about 0.10". The seal is about 0.20". I removed both and reinstalled. The nut that came with the dampers looks thicker than your picture. The top of the threads is about even to the top of the nut now. I think everything is ok. I think I'll pick up a shorter nut.

Does there need to be the dust cover stack up? If I have a shorter nut, I should be ok even with the dust cover thickness but if I don't need the stackup, I'll leave it off.
Also, I torqued the mounting bolts the same as the old housing. 34 ft-lbs. Is this the correct torque for these bolts. The bolts are smaller dia. so I hope I didn't over torque.

Thanks,

Don,

Sounds like you have it worked out satisfacorily. I am curious about the .200" thick seal, I can not see this in the PET for the Boge installation.

The 3 mount bolts are now M8 (previously M10) and should be torqued to 22 ft/lbs.
The 34 ft/lbs is excessive and might - but not necessarily - have damaged the bolts.
Please email me direct, I will send you 6 new bolts.
Did you receive instructions with the kit?

Regards

Hayden

The .20" seal may have come with the damper inserts. I don't remember. I'll send you some pixs of it tomorrow when the digital camera returns.
I'll retorque the bolts to 22. Is there a chance I could have damaged the threads in the housing? Don't worry about sending new bolts. I'll pick some up at Tacoma Screw on Monday. If they don't have any, I'll let you know.

No instructions came with the kit. I was going to suggest to add instructions to the kit but sounds like they just didn't get packed with mine.

Don,

It is very unlikely that you damaged the threads in the housing.
I will speak with SRP about the instructions, typically they repro our WEVO instructions onto their own stock and include them.
Sorry if you had any difficulty as a result of this, there is useful info regarding how to install the kit without losing your existing set-up, plus info about torque settings, product care, do's and don'ts etc.

Regards

Hayden
