Detailing in trunk pics

I figured it was about time to clean up some of the mess left by the PO. It took me two weekends but was worth it.

BGCarrera32, nice job on yours. I found most of the time was spend sanding and masking. What my before picture didn't show was the hinges, they were red also. It didn't look very good when I opened the trunk with all that red on a green car.

I thought removing the cosmoline/wax garbage all over the seams of the sheet metal was the worst part...I also removed all the HVAC stuff and cleaned it out piece by piece...I must be nuts.

These folks supply the original Gas Tank Grey paint/stain that is used by John Paterak and some of your better know show quality restoration shops.
It can be brushed or sprayed although you cannot tell the difference so I usually brush it on. Makes your old gas tank look like new. I guarantee it because I've used it many many times in the past.

They also make very good leather dye formulas.

Oh yes, I can remember being there. Made in aluminum:
drilled smuggler's box lid
fuse box
brake fluid bottle bracket
fuel sender connection protector
ventilation protection plate
undertray for the steering rack
And to follow shortly, an aluminum hood.

what is that ? a 100 Liter tank? or did you modify it?

i have one with room for an inflatable tire but that's useless
i'm thinking about flattening my trunk with a board with the carpet tight on the boar, no carpet on the side
then make a thing to fix my full size spare tire in the back/center of the trunk
then make a board for the blowers and stuff, but completely covering

That is a 106 liter tank (cut and weld). I got it cheap from a guy, cleaned it and repainted it. I am working on another of the same kind but with center fill "à la JPNovak"

All that aluminum and you still have the spare and the smugglers lid. You don't need not stink'n spare! Or a lid for that matter.
Now an aluminum hood-that's sweet!
Nice trunks!

Nice trunks!
you don't need it till you're in the middle of nowhere with a flat, and don't talk fix-a-flat , cause you can bet on it that when you are in the middle of nowhere, it's not going to be a small puncture and you will be stuck.

i think it actually looks nice to have a full size tire when you pop the hood of a 911

if it's not a track car with weight reductions all round, and you are using it as a fun car for touring, then the extra weight up front makes the car more enjoyable when it comes to handling. i actually drove with a sand bag in the front just for this reason, it's a cheap insurance for the old back of the car coming out of the corner before the front of the car thing.

and superior driving skills will not save you if you happen to come across a bad piece of asfalt with either oil or another thing that makes your car loose grip where you don't expect it, once it breaks out a 911 doesn't recover well. 50 kilo in the trunk can make a the difference in these sort of situations.

i travel light so i don't need a trunk that will store 5 samsonite cases, i can do 1.7 weeks on the trolleybag thing that fit's in overhead compartments of airplanes , and it still fits in the trunk next to the full size spare...
